Treaty 4 Leadership Forum/Information Session

On November 22-23, over 40 Chiefs, Councillors and Headmen attended the Treaty 4 Leadership Forum/Information Session in Fort Qu’Appelle.  The 2-day meeting hosted by the Treaty 4 members of the IAMC provided detailed information to leadership on the activities and benefits of the Line 3 IAMC as well as upcoming engagement opportunities related to the implementation of policies and regulations contained within Bills C-68/69, should they become legislation.

Chief Peigan of Pasqua First Nation chaired the 2-day session which included moderating a roundtable discussion with the Chair of the National Energy Board, Peter Watson which focused on issues of significant importance to impacted Nations.  These included the protection of heritage resources and knowledge keepers’ access to private lands during the pipeline’s construction, operation and decommissioning.

The information provided generated substantial discussions amongst assembled participants and the event’s success provided yet another example of the benefits of the emerging partnership between impacted Indigenous Nations, the Government of Canada and the National Energy Board.  The Committee’s Secretariat, comprised of Natural Resources staff from the Indigenous Partnerships Office-West were gifted a Star Blanket from the Treaty 4 members for support in setting up the 2 days of presentations.
