Biography

Melvin Wayne Abraham is a member of the Frog Lake First Nation in the Treaty 6 Territory.

He was raised in the Cree traditional way of ceremonies and values. Melvin speaks the Cree language very fluently and has extensive knowledge in Cree herbal medicines.

He is a retired police officer, and served on Frog Lake First Nation Chief and Council for a two year term as Council Member in the late 1990’s. Melvin is a recognized Ceremonial Elder of the Frog Lake First Nation and surrounding First Nations.

Melvin currently serves in the following capacities:

  • Chairperson of the Morning Sky Health and Wellness Society Board of Directors on Frog Lake First Nation;
  • Indigenous Advisory Committee Member for Eastern Alberta District for the RCMP “K” Division as the Ambassador to the Commanding Officer;
  • Committee Member of the Indian Oil and Gas Canada/Indian Resource Council of Canada Joint Technical Committee 1;
  • Board of Director member of the St. Paul Education Regional Division;
  • Chairperson of the Blue Quills University Elder’s Senate; and
  • Committee member of the Line 3 IAMC and Chairperson of the IAMC Emergency Management Sub Committee.

Melvin has over 30 years of experience in oilfield and pipeline construction in various capacities ranging from equipment Operator to Field Superintendent, Oilfield Consultant and Pipeline Trenching Inspector.
