Biography
Kirk Poitras is a distinguished Métis Citizen and accomplished business leader with a rich history of executive roles and impactful contributions to the energy industry.
As the Founder and President of Apeiron Resources, Kirk exemplifies a commitment to driving sustainable business growth while forging meaningful connections within the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. With a career spanning over two decades, Kirk possesses a profound understanding of Indigenous engagement, business development, and commodity management, emphasizing the importance of building transparent, trust-based relationships.
Kirk’s journey through the corporate landscape includes key positions such as Executive Vice President at Steel River Group, where he played an instrumental role in steering the company towards success. Prior to that, he served as a Commercial and Midstream Marketer with ATCO Energy Solutions and honed his expertise in logistics and marketing during his tenure with BP Energy. Kirk’s early career stints at TC Energy and Nova Chem equipped him with a solid foundation in the energy sector.
Since 1998, Kirk has dedicated his time and expertise to various ventures on behalf of the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. He has been the primary representative in economic development opportunities to advance Métis interest in Western Canada. Kirk collaborates with CEOs, executives, and corporations to foster sustainable partnerships between businesses and the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. His passion for preserving the human-to-human element in business dealings underscores his ability to connect authentically with people, enabling the development of enduring and trust-based relationships.
Currently, Kirk serves as the Board Chair at the Aboriginal Friendship Center of Calgary, championing initiatives that break barriers and empower the urban Indigenous community through cultural reconnection, programs, services, and access to vital resources addressing social and economic realities. Kirk also has the honor to be appointed to represent Métis Nation of Alberta as a committee member on the Indigenous Advisory Monitoring Committee (IAMC) for Enbridge’s Line 3 Replacement Project, a committee he has been on since its inception in 2017. Kirk has also held a past role as the Chair of a prominent oil sands committee that brought together industry giants such as Shell, Chevron, Marathon, and ATCO.
In 2023, Kirk was honored to be a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal for the recognition of the work he has done in the category for Indigenous economic development.
